Summer Term 2011-12
Ipswich High Riders come 4th at Royal Windsor

Ipswich High School’s new equestrian team is celebrating showjumping success at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
A team of four girls from the squad, formed just six months ago, took an incredible fourth place out of 30 schools selected nationally at the National Schools Equestrian Association Competition at the weekend, beating off competition from top riding teams from around the country.
The team were also the only team in the competition to score an astonishing four clear rounds for the 90cm-1m course and were just one second behind the 2nd and 3rd placed teams, beating teams from RHS and Cheltenham Ladies College.
Eleanor Peel, Yr 10, riding Cruising Ghost, Maisie Peel, 13, Yr 8, riding Secret Stowaway, Kate McLeod Scott, Yr 9, riding Eton and Rowena Wilson-Smith, Yr 8, riding Charlie XVII, had never competed at such a major national show as Windsor before but didn’t let the nerves get to them.
The IHS Equestrian Team comprises a squad of 22 girls who all compete regularly for the school. They recently won the Suffolk County Showjumping title. IHS Team Trainer Emma Lacey, a top local British Showjumping instructor, said "I am so very proud of the Windsor team. To compete in such a daunting environment against some of the best schools teams in the country and to do well enough to be the one and only team in the competition to score four clear rounds is exceptional.
Every one of them kept a clear head, rode according to team instructions and rode every single stride perfectly. They couldn’t have done any better.
I am especially pleased with them as the teamhas only been together for six months. It was great to have really good support from the rest of the squad too. All day we were having calls and texts from the IHS girls wishing us luck, which was fantastic”.
With thanks also to Lucy Eddis, who was the IHS team reserve. In the end Lucy, who had already qualified for The Royal Windsor individually, did not need to ride.
Flood Tide Exhibition and Open Art Event

From 4.30pm, Friday 22nd June
To mark the beginning of Arts Week 2012, we will be hosting The Flood Tide Exhibition and Performance in the grounds of Woolverstone Hall, alongside the Annual GCSE and A level Art & DT Exhibition in the Art Department. Flood Tide is the culmination of over a year’s worth of creative and innovative work, inspired by Dr John Eacott, an eminent composer whose latest works include composing for the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Taming of the Shrew.
Without doubt, the project is one of the UK’s most extraordinary, pioneering school programmes. Throughout the last year, students from Ipswich High School have worked collaboratively with students from UCS and Northgate High School to create a musical and artistic response to the flow of the River Orwell, in a cross-disciplinary exploration of the tidal water.
The quality and originality of their work has been outstanding, and we look forward to sharing the Ipswich High School works with you. Site-specific pieces, created in our grounds by artists Lou Rose and Emma Eagle will also be on display.
Ipswich High Riders to Jump at Royal Windsor
Four students from Ipswich High School for Girls have hit the heights of equestrian competition, with selection to compete at the Royal Windsor International Horse Show on Saturday 12th May.
The team of Kate McLeod Scott riding Eton, Ellie Peel riding Cruising Ghost, Maisie Peel riding Secret Stowaway and Rowena Wilson-Smith riding Charlie XVII, (with Lucy Eddis riding Champfleurie in reserve) are one of only thirty teams across the UK to be selected to compete.
Congratulations on this excellent achievement, during only your second term of competing for Ipswich High School Equestrian Team.
